Establishment of family business and called it as Progressive Technology Enterprises with a clear focus on providing IT services as Information Technology was becoming the buzz word across the country. On 15th June, 1988; with the purchase of one PC-AT-286 with a 132 col. printer and a 625 VA UPS, we kicked off to a new era. Passion was flowing with a zeal to do something very different and worthwhile to give our bit to the nation and the humanity. On the very first day, we picked up a data entry job to sustain our recurring expenses and 'the day has begun'. The year went off with several interesting ups and downs. We had in hand a project from the maintenance department of ITC Maurya Sheraton Hotel. It was a challenging assignment and during the last part of the year, the mindset was evolving out of that uncertainity for the future. We decided to enter into product development and that too in a niche area of IT in healthcare. By end December, we developed our first product and branded it as 'LMIS (Laboratory Management and Information System)'. This product was available on 'DOS' platform. It was implemented at Saral Diagnostics, a premier lab in the NCR region. That was the entry and the command was built over this sector. It is our belief that we were the first ones in Northeren part of India to devleop and implement a software product in healthcare sector. Success started pouring in.
With the success of our first product; we entered into the domain of healthcare more rigorously and effectively. Our second product came in shape during mid of the year for the practising pediatricians and we branded it 'CCCS (Computerised Child Care System)'. It started selling and the team was getting built up. Both the partners thought of changing the face of the venture into a private limited company. On 20th April, 1989; Protech Systems Private Limited was established with a focus to continue in the domain of healthcare sector. And then we got an interesting project. LML had brought out a public contest and we were chosen as the IT support partner for it. Over 44,000 letters were received in that contest by snail mail and the entire logistics from receipt of letters to the final declaration of the winner was entirely handled by us. By the end of the year, in an open auction we bought our first office.
The year went off mainly in sales of our existing two products; LMIS and CCCS. And in the process; we started getting a firm hold on the healthcare market. Healthcare was mainly owned and operated by medical doctors only and it used to be a great exercise for us to deal nd convince them to switch to IT for their opeartions. Every client appeared to us unique and we believed in a unique pattern of service portfolio wherein we established a 12X7 support cell (from 8 am to 8 pm) and our support system was appreciated and welcomed by one and all. Infrastructure was enhanced. We procured another PC-AT-286 along with a latest entrant PC-AT-386 and many other terminals, printers and power backup systems. DFC supported us, financially. During the end of the year, we ventured into accounting market and developed our next product; 'PROFIN (Financial Accounting System)' over 'DOS'. Three Video/Movie editing studios approached us to develop a comprehensive billing system for them. Here, our journey started in other niche market segments. Our success with those studios created a new opening for us. And we welcomed it!
Consolidation of product development and marketing actvities gave us an opportunity to complete our first Hospital Information System and we called the new product emerging out of this project as 'PROHOSYS (Hospital Management System)' over 'DOS'. Alongwith that we released our two other products 'PROCREATE (Gynae. and Obs. Clinic Management System) and 'PRODENT (Dental Clinic Mangement System). Our products were being sold in many parts of North India by the end of the year.
The year started with a different paradigm. One of the biggest retail showroom of that time approached us for undertaking one of our biggest IT challenege ever. A chain of showrooms were to be connected over leased lines and the entire billing, accounting, purchase, sales, et al systems were to be over this wide area network. This added laurels to our capabilities and the development started with full thrust. During the year we came up with new products 'PROENT (ENT Clinic Management System), PRODERM (Dermatology Clinic Management System)'.
In the first part of the year, two reputed Eye clinics projects were undertaken. Comprehensive appointment system was another achievement especially the concept of remote appointments was absoluetly unknown in that era. Retail showroom was fully computerised and connected. And we had to face the first struggle in getting our final payment. It was a new experience for us yet we faced it bravely and kept calm. By the end of the year, we packaged our next product 'PROEYE (Eye Clinic Management System)'. Both Eye clinics were up and running with our product by the end of the year.
The year is remembered as a year of recognition. Consultancy Developemnt Centre (CDC) of Government of India recognized our scalable works in IT in pediatrics and awarded us with the 'Best IT product' for the year 1994. Four hospitals projects were undertaken and completed by the end of the year. Yet, our best hot selling product was 'PROGENY 2000 (Computerised Child Care System)'. We started following a new 'product nomenclature pattern' in which the branding was done with a distinct idea of having 'PRO' in it and every product was given a number. Three new products were developed and started their sales. We were the only company to showcase our products in CeBit, Hannover, Germany. There were 8 more Indian companies but maninly in harwadre or Mainframe technologies. We procured and implemented our first international order from a Dutch company to develop fax viewer over C++ platform.
The year emerged as a transition phase for us to switch over to 'Windows' platform from 'DOS'. We started porting our products onto 'Microsoft Windows'technology platform. Vist to Vienna, Austria yielded results and UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) asked us to develop its Project Financial Management System.
Our first 'Windows' based product was born by mid of the year 'PROHOSYS 2050 (Hospital Management System)'. Its implementation started in one of the hospital that took us nearly 8 months. By the end of the year, we completed implementation at three hospitals. By mid of the year, UNIDO's UFMS (UNIDO's Financial Management System) was implemented at Vienna HQ of UNIDO.
PROGENY and LMIS were still on top of the sales. UFMS was implemented at several offices of UNIDO across the world including India, Tanzania, Brazil and Mauritius.
The year marked several achievements for PROTECH. UNIDO offered us to undertake another global project of developing Project and Investment Management System with off shore development at our site. New versions of LMIS and PROGENY came up. Other IT products in healthcare took a leap and by the end of the year, we had a Pedant and Professional series of products to offer to market. Our first payment defaulter came back to us after nearly five years and asked us to undertake new developments. He claimed to have used our system without our support for nearly five years and that opened his eyes. And ours too!
By the mid of year; UNIDO's new product was out for implementation and then came up a new project request from Bologna, Italy branch of UNIDO for whom we started developing one of its kind IT service portfolio to connect five Mediterrean countries (Italy, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia and Jordan). Aim was to build industrial projects and investment indictaors and their comprehensive analysis for these five countries. In this year, we completed implementation of PROHOSYS 2050 in three more hospitals. By the end of millenium; we had highest selling product as PROGENY 2000 and LMIS. We were ready for Y2K menace!
At the stroke of the midnight of 31st December, 1999; we enquired and found all our applications, solutions, products were working absoluetly in accordance with Y2K. We heard stories of chaos from our colleagues but for us; those appeared lack of competency in them. New versions of PROGENY 2000, PROHOSYS 2050 and PROEYE 2010 came up during the year. Developement of INFOBASE (UNIDO's service portfolio for five Mediterrean countries) continued throughout the year. PROHOSYS 2050 was implemnted at two more hospitals.
The year marked completion of our first Retail Showroom Management System ('PRORETAIL 5001') after a comprehensive development for nearly 18 months. Our first version of INFOSYS was implemented and immediately we were asked to undertake development of its second version to be implemented in those five countries and interconnect those. We were invited by a premium hospital to look into connecting their diagnostic machines with their HIS. For the first time we worked with the third party HIS and built a seamless communication pipe between the diagnostic machines and the HIS. Serial port communication (ASTM or Proprietary) to connect diagnostic machines and the central DB became our USP within no time.
A new version of LMIS came up and implemented at 14 diagnostic centres. A new version of PROEYE was implemented at several Eye clinics. But yet PROGENY 2000 remained our premium product. We got our first trademark registered; 'PRORETAIL 5001'. Second version INFOBASE was implemnted in five Mediterrean countries (Italy, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia and Jordan). Industrial Projects and Investment indicators opened a new paradigm for these countries.
A new product range was devloped under the banner LINKPRO 2025 and by the end of the year we had done interfacing of nearly 100 diagnostic machines. DICOM 2.0 technology was adopted for Radiological equipemnts. A new version of PROHOSYS 2050 with comprehensive analytics was developed.
International chain of diagnostic centre selected Protech Systems Pvt. Ltd. to build an enterprise system for their several locations. More than 50 machines were connected to various HIS databases. The year marked 15 years of existence of Protech Systmes Pvt Ltd.
Implementation of LMIS with an enterprise portfolio was implemneted at several locations. Bar codes applications for inventory, registration and tracking system were introduced in Prohosys 2050 and LMIS. Smart cards for loyalty programs were introduced in entire range of our products.
First time, company brought out the news letter containing latest information on latest product developments as well newer technologies being adopted. Launch of newer version of our website with online support system. Agreement signed with Four SMS services providers. All our applications and products can now have pluggable SMS modules.
For the first time; Protech Systems Pvt. Ltd. was evaluated for Quality Management Standards and with much efforts, received coveted ISO 9001:2008 Certification from KVQA. Development processes were atndarised as per International standards.
We got another Trademark registered "PROCREATE" in the software category. Intranet Based Emailing System was introduced in PROHOSYS 2050 to build a 'near to' paperless environment in a hospital.
Site Globalization/Multi-Language was undertaken. Mobile Device Applications were developed. LMIS sales increased. Two more Hospital projects were completed.
LMIS sales overtook PROGENY 2000. New PROHOSYS 2050 version was planned. ISO Certifcation was renewed durng the year. Newer processes were introduced. Better SOPs for all departments built. Two venture investors had shown interest but the matter was set aside by the Board due to inadequate evaluation by the investors. Complete set of Pedant series and Professional products were consolidated. We got another Trademark registered "SaltNPepper" in the Newspaper category. We decided to bring out a newer form of Newsletter presenting all our activities.
New development on LMIS started off on .NET 4.0 platform with a target launch date somewhere in mid 2014. Dr. Bal was nominated by the Board to head the team for the said purpose. Interfacing amrk touched a sweet 250 in this year. We built a target of 500 by 2014. CSR Cell was inaugrated. Couple of CSR activites were undertaken and the board makes an announcement to actively pursue Green initiatives. ISO certification for the developemtn centre was renewed for another 3 years.
The year remained bullish due to strategic change in development policies. Board decided to build a road map of 5 yaers and for next 2 years focus on sustained sales. Our Trademarks "PRORETAIL" and "PROCREATE" in the software category got renewed for ten more years till year 2022.
Two new chain of hospitals have tied up with us for their enterprise range of solutions in their path labs. PROGENY 2000 sales once again picked up though lot of efforts are still required for enhanced market share. PROHOSYS 2050 new version architecting started with a road map of 3 yaers to build an enterprise Hospital Management System.
Team protech has taken a stride to build horizontal business segments in the field of Healthcare and F&B. A new enterprise version of Diagnostic Centre application is rolled out and the beat test was successful. Currently it is running successfully in one of the premium diagnostic centres of NCR of Delhi. We touched a mark of 500 machines which have been interfaced by us during all these years for several of our clients. Board of Directors have decided to raise capital and enhance infrastructure in next financial year starting from 1st April, 2015. Latika Bal joined in the management. Protech Systems Pvt Ltd celebrates its silver jubillee. 25 years old company dedicated and committed to providing top class IT products and solutions to various sectors.
